Holidays & Short Breaks
DOWNLOAD OUR SHORT BREAKS FLYER
Our weekend breaks provide exciting short breaks for disabled children and young people. The breaks take place at outdoor activity centres including Lea Green, Dukes Barn, Ghyll Head and YHA venues in York, Liverpool and Nottingham. The breaks run from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon at regular intervals throughout the year. They also enable quality respite for families who have a child with a disability.
The holidays are held at licensed and adapted venues for disabled children and young people aged 8 to 18.
Our short breaks are designed to meet the needs of children and young people with a range of disabilities. They develop an individual’s self esteem and self-confidence through the provision of adventurous outdoor activities.
Each short break provides a range of activities determined by the children and young people themselves. In response to this our holiday breaks currently offer:
- Zip wire
We also include a range of less physically active leisure options including:
- Museum visits
The menu of activities is flexible so they can be adapted to meet your child’s individual requirements and wishes. We aim to combine individual requests with some taster sessions in order to broaden experiences.
DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD SCHEME
Many of the young people who attend these short breaks also have access to the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. This enables individuals to work towards their award through the Local Authority’s Open Award Centre alongside their peers.

The 11+ Scheme are groups for disabled young people aged 11-18 years who want the opportunity to experience fun and take part in challenging activities as part of a small group; with the support of an experienced and qualified team of staff.
It enables young people to socialise and make new friends, share positive experiences, contribute ideas, and have FUN in a safe, stimulating and caring environment.
Groups consist of 6 young people and 4 adults.
Activities run for a week during the Easter holidays and 3 weeks during the summer holidays.
Activities are designed to enhance self-esteem and self-image by building self-confidence and learning new skills.
We encourage our young people to suggest new activities they would like to try out.
Different activities are arranged each day of the week and our young people are given the choice of which activities they would like to take part in.
The following activities may be included:
- Museum Trips
- Boat Trips
- Cinema Visits
