Welcome All

Stockport CP supports children and adults who have physical and/or learning disabilities.

We provide services to residents of Stockport, Manchester, Trafford, Tameside and Cheshire.

The Society provides support to people who have physical and/or learning disabilities.

The Society is a registered charity which was established in 1953 by parents and carers, children and adults who were dissatisfied by the range and quality of services available. We remain very much a parent-led organisation.

Our Beliefs

Civil rights, maximum independence and challenging discrimination faced by people with disabilities.

Our Vision

A society where people who have disabilities are equally valued and empowered to live full and rewarding lives.

Our Mission

To improve the quality of life for people with cerebral palsy and allied conditions in Stockport, East Cheshire, High Peak and surrounding districts through the provision of quality services and campaigns in partnership with people who have disabilities, carers and other organisations. To give priority to those with high support needs.

Our Purpose

To develop and provide a unigue range of services, which reflect individual need and choice through integrated provision and specialised support.

We currently offer the following services:

  • Cheddle Lodge Residential Care Home – Residential and respite care for adults with complex disabilities.
  • The Skills Group – A service which develops and maintains peoples’ range of skills. Occupational, therapeutic, and leisure activities are provided on a daily basis for adults with complex disabilities.
  • Leisure Link – A very wide range of projects for Children and Adults, which promotes their participation in social and leisure activities. By doing this we also provide carers with respite.
  • Community Services – Helping children and adults who have disabilities, to continue living in their home of choice and to take part in local social and leisure and educational activities.

Monitoring and Quality

We strive to ensure that people are very satisfied with our services and we make sure that we know their views by:-

Meeting with people who receive services and undertaking customer satisfaction surveys
Involving an independent advocacy service to provide representation for people in particular circumstances
Monthly inspections of services by the Chief Executive

Two of our services, Cheddle Lodge and Community Support are inspected by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI). They rank services as either poor, adequate, good or excellent. Our Community Support Service is ranked as good with good prospects for achieving an excellent ranking. Cheddle Lodge is as ranked excellent.

Training and Recruitment

Our recruitment processes are robust and rigorous, enhanced CRB checks and references are always obtained. We actively encourage applications from under-represented groups within the local population.

Our training programme for staff and volunteers is extensive, involving induction, mandatory training, progression to NVQs and specialised training to enable staff to meet service users’ specific care needs. Staff are supported by regular supervision sessions which have a particular focus on personal and professional development.

We have an excellent support team with experience and expertise in personnel, finance, and administration.

Referrals and Accessing Services

Requests for a service can be made by: the individuals themselves, parents/relatives, carers, friends or by professionals such as Social Workers or Community Health Workers.

Financial Arrangements and Fees

Some families will receive assistance from their local authority to cover the cost of services. Others may pay privately. Due to the generous support of charitable trusts and donations from individuals, costs of services are kept as low as possible.
